TOHOSHINKI

TVXQ is a Korean band (Korean Wave) that has gained popularity in Japan, Taiwan, China, and other East-Asian countries. TVXQ is referred to by various names, its Korean title being 'Dong Bang Shin Gi/Ki (동방신기), which is abbreviated to either DBSK or DBSG. The Japanese equivalent is Tōhōshinki (東方神起). Although the group is synonymous with numerous tags, its official name is Tong Vfang Xien Qi. The group debuted in South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and China approximately in 2004. TVXQ is composed of five male members specializing in the areas of dance, A cappella, various drama acting, and pop with an R&B vibe.The Five Members From Eldest to Youngest:1. The Korean phrase Dong Bang Shin Ki translates almost literally into Gods Rising From The East. This five-man dance team came into being after an audition in 2004. The contestants of the audition were divided into groups of their peers and received training to find potential talents.The first member to join was Kim JunSu (김준수). At the age of 14 he was brought into the band through a televised talent search. His vocals won over the judges and won him thorough training for the next six years until he debuted as Xiah JunSu (시아준수; Xiah is pronounced SHe-AH in Korean).The groups next member.

Jung YunHo (정윤호), secured his spot in TVXQ through a dance competition. Prior to this, he accumulated some musical experience as a rapper and backup dancer for K-pop singer Dana. His chosen stage name is U-know YunHo (유노윤호; YunHo sounds like you know in English).Kim JaeJoong (김재중), like Japanese pop singer Tamaki Nami, left his hometown in Chungnam to audition for SM Entertainment. YoungWoong JaeJoong (영웅재중, also known as Hero which is the English equivalent).Shim ChangMin (심창민) was grouped with the youngest participants in the audition. Like Xiah JunSu, he impressed the judges with his vocal prowess. He joined the band under the name ChoiKang ChangMin (최강창민; the English counterpart to his stage name is Max).Six months before the groups debut a final member was added.

Park YooChun (박유천) lived in Virginia for roughly 4 years with an Americanized name, Micky. As the winner of a talent show, he was granted the opportunity to sign with SM Entertainment in Korea. He now performs under the stage name Micky.TVXQ made their first appearance in 2003 during a Christmastime showcase featuring fellow SM Entertainment star BoA and Britney Spears. They performed their debut single "Hug" as well as an A cappella rendition of "O Holy Night" alongside BoA. The group eventually released two singles before their first album in 2004.For preparation for their first album, the band recorded the single Tri-Angle with BoA and The TRAX. BoAs profound popularity in Japan, alongside The TRAXs evolvement in said country, helped to promote the awareness overseas of the new boy band.Tong Vfang Xien Qi has also released albums and singles in China. SM Entertainment had once even considered adding a Chinese member to the group to help boost popularity within the country. However, SM Entertainment has abandoned the idea due to the overflowing amount of complaints from their fan group Cassiopeia (named after the constellation near the Big Dipper).Their single Rising Sun from the self-titled album has enjoyed great popularity in Korea, China, Taiwan, and Singapore.Their musical talent, pretty-boy looks, and charisma helped to drive the sensational group into a chart-topping force.

TVXQ has toured in concerts, made guest appearances, and participated in numerous commercials throughout several Asian countries. Their apparent omnipresence in Asia perhaps solidifies the meaning behind their name.

Musical style

Although TVXQ was initially marketed as an a cappella group, most of the group's music is mainstream K-pop and J-pop. Their debut single "Hug" was a pop song, but their follow up single "The Way U Are" was a dance/R&B number, complete with stylized outfits and choreographed dance moves. However the song of their first album, '믿어요(I Believe...)', was a ballad. TVXQ concluded the year with a Christmas album that also had an a cappella version of "Jesus, Joy of Man's Desiring".

With consecutive releases, they have not moved from this formula, as their second and third albums have had a similar mixture without moving outside of the mainstream. The second album's singles, for example, included a dance song (their first release) and a ballad (their follow up). The third album's releases have been dance, ballad and pop tracks. The group also recorded a cappella tracks for official albums released in both Korea and Japan, in which they rearrange original songs as a cappella versions. In the 13th single released in Japan, TVXQ arranged their debut single 'Hug' as an a cappella track and performed it in their 2nd Live Tour in Japan.
In Japan, the group's image and music has shifted towards a different market from the one in South Korea. Owing to their more mature fan base in Japan, TVXQ has gravitated towards a cappella and melodic pop songs rather than the heavy and fast pop tunes, coupled with intensive dance choreography, that are commonly seen in their usual songs in South Korea

[News] TVXQ Holds Concert in Taipei From MY PAPER 11/5/08

TVXQ Holds Concert in Taipei3000 Fans Hold Roses for Proposal
TVXQ's Taiwan concert in October 2007 was disrupted due to a typhoon and yesterday night they fulfilled their promise of holding another concert to make up for the disruption. Fans prepared fans, red balloons, red glowsticks and red roses. Some 8000 fans made up a "sea of red" in the Taipei Arena.
TVXQ which has just completed 17 shows during the 3rd Live Tour expressed that they still recall the concert last year where fans continued to brave the winds and rains to see their performance, and stated that they "were really very amazing", thus they wanted to keep their promise of holding another concert.
When they sang "Midhuyo", fans chanted "Waiting for you" to TVXQ and subsequently shouted out each member's names, at the end they even prepared 3000 red roses to mass-"propose" to TVXQ.
The fans even considered the fact that Junsu is allergic to pollen and wrapped every single red rose. Their passion has touched TVXQ.
From MY PAPER 13/5/08:
After successfully completing their Taiwan Concert last Saturday, TVXQ went to dine at a Korean restaurant. The entire group of people comprised dancers and staff, and the 100-odd team packed the Korean restautant which was booked by them. They enjoyed Korean-style meat, rice puddings, seafood and steamfood and spent close to NT$100,000 (or SGD 4456).
On the way to the restaurant, TVXQ was being pursued by clsoe to 100 fans who reached the restaurant earlier to welcome them, and there was a slight tussle with the security guards at a particular moment.
TVXQ was shocked by the fans' shouts and screams of passion. After the hard work at the concert, they ate voraciously and even rose up to thank all the staff member.
They left Taiwan two days before and the guards initially requested them to walk through the private walkway, but they insisted on walking by the public way. Close to 400 fans lined up in two rows and once they saw TVXQ, they shouted things like "Don't go!" and "Please come to Taiwan again!", sending thier idols off.
